Still missing you and thinking of you every day. I can't imagine how your actual family must feel. I can only hope that you have a sense of just how meaningful your persona and magnificent work remain to so many people.

May God bring Mr. Russell's family the peace and comfort that only He can, and may his family rest assured that Leon's legacy is and will remain intact. I know his greatest wish was to write a standard, and I also know that that wish was granted manifold. I had the privilege of seeing Leon on a number of occasions, the first of which was in Macon, GA on the Wedding Album tour. There were only a handful of comers (since interracial relationships were, and still are) taboo in the deep South. With his usual grace and panache, he asked the house lights be turned up so he could see his fans scattered throughout the 11,000+ capacity and simply requested, "Well, bless y'all's hearts. Come on down here, right here in front. We gone have us a time." And boy, did we! Next time was at a little club, also in Macon, called Liz Reeds, upstairs, about 300 seats. As he was wont to do, he began promptly at 8:00, segued seamlessly through an hour-long set and stood, bowed and exited, but not without looking at me, with that wuthering look of his as if to ask, "You didn't enjoy that?; why ain't you standing like all the rest?" -- he had no way of knowing I had ventured out with the worst influenza I'd ever had, just to see him... and, again, it was so worth it! And the last time I saw him was in July 2015 at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. My husband John, my daughter Melissa, our friend Larry, and I stood in line around the block til the doors opened and we were allowed in. Melissa, 24 at the time, was by far the youngest in attendance, and she fell in love with the Master of Space & Time as did her mother and myriad others. Out of character for him (or so I thought), he bantered with the audience, speaking of the time he met Elvis, the wife whose name he would not utter, his love and admiration and homage "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" to Andre Crouch and God. Had I known that was to be the last time I'd see him in THIS world, I'd have, against my nature, waited outside his bus like the groupie that I am, refusing to leave until I gained a moment of his precious time and had him autograph my tee-shirt (Leon Russell Birthday Bash 1994). I hope his family knows that an American icon he truly was and that they are comforted in knowing God called him home in His perfect timing. I love you all, and am eternally jealous that you knew him and I didn't.

I have listened to your music since the 70's. God Bless your soul and may you be singing with the Angels now.
My favorites are Delta Lady and Back to the Island.
You will be forever missed on earth and may I catch up to you in Heaven.

I was in my car on Sunday going to work when I learned that Leon Russell had passed away. He was one of the best arrangers, songwriters, and pianists who has ever lived. The best example of his excellent piano work can be heard on Badfinger's song Day After Day. He was a great inspiration to me since I was 13 years old, I first saw him in the Mad Dogs & Englishmen film. I miss him greatly. Leon is the one playing the tenor horn part on the studio version of A Song For You. What a great talent he was.

It is the most empty feeling to click on "touring schedule" on Leon's website and not see anything. The first time I did this my heart sank. :( All of us are missing you Leon. But then I think you already know that. You were blessed to be so loved by family and fans and we were all blessed to have you! Thanks to Jan and your family for sharing you with the world! We will all see you again one day.

I've grown very fond of Leon's version of Jerry Reeds-Big Boss Man. Find myself singin it over and over. Wish he would have performed more of this style of raw bluesy music since he delivered this perfectly. Just one of my many favorites that leave me wishin that my boring life could have been more like his.

Leon has been my favorite since first saw him in concert circa 1971. I would check his tour schedule regularly to catch him at nearby venues. He's been a part of my life for so long. Just missing him today. ♥

Leon..a great musician and an entertainer
Loved his whole vibe and even the Hank thing and the duet with e.j.
You are sorely missed.

I am also in total denial. I can't believe I won't see Leon Live. Saw him approximately 50 times and wished for 50 more. My idol, forever and ever.

I, too have been in denial since November 13, 2016. A great loss with Mr. Leon Russell's passing.

Through the years, I look back on the wonderful concerts I attended: Conroe, TX; Dawgs and Hawgs concert, Henderson, TX; Gruene Hall, New Braunfels, TX; and Nutty Jerry's, Winnie, Tx.

To have had the chance to see Mr. Russell are loving memories I will cherish. The many photos, I took. The many autographs he gave me (including the one where he drew a caricature on the album cover where he was just having fun).

Thank you, Mr. Russell.

The beauty of your songs.

Thank you, Mr. Russell.

The joy you gave all your devoted Lifer fans.

Thank you, Mr. Russell.

Rest in peace, Mr. Leon Claude Russell Bridges.

Rest in peace.

*****************

They don't make 'em like they used to, those guys
And I can't get used to the way that it is today
No one to look up to, hard times and though I try
I just can't find the reason these days

And it seems like the seasons are passing me
They're going by, nothing to hold on to, rough times
And it goes on, so count on me and I'll count on you
You can lean on me, two of us stronger

We won't be alone any longer
Now and for always we will be good friends
Count on me, into any storm, we're gonna survive it
Into any fire, we'll carry on

Know that one day you and me will both be old friends
And we'll sit on the sofa and talk about how
They don't make 'em like they used to, you'll see
As time goes on, so count on me and I'll count on you

In a world like this, when nothing is sure
And people are afraid, Ill be here for
Now and for always we will be good friends
Count on me, they don't make it now like they used to

They're not gonna last like you and me, I'll be there
Oh, always we will be, year by year
Depend on me, into any storm
We're gonna survive it

Into any fire, just count on me, I'll be there
Oh, tough guys, you and me, year by year
They will see, they don't make it now like they used to
They're not gonna last like you and me.

I guess I have been in denial, keep remembering past shows, Charlotte 72, Norfolk 74?, Charlotte again with Skynrd & ZZtop, loved Bangaladesh, seen it 100 times, always respected the man, saw him at a small bar in Fla & in Ga in recent years, will always remember the man as long as I have a breath in me. One of the greatest......
