I grew up in Sand Springs and was enamored by Leon Russell of Tulsa! I graduated from high school in '71. Had the privilege of seeing him in Tulsa when I was young and horny and pretty damn sure a finer looking man had never been born! His music grounded me and sustained me throughout my life. Had the opportunity to see and hear and feel his genius in OKC sometime in the last decade. His music will always be part of me...not my life, but part of me. Thank you Leon Russell!

Tremendous musician, always remember him by the opening piano riff on Joe Cocker's 'Feeling Alright'!

We had the wonderful chance to see Leon Russell at the Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton.
What a great show! We were looking forward to seeing him again. So sad.
I was the one who really introduced my Jeff to his body of work. We even got his autograph on the album we bought at that concert.
He will be very missed along with Glen Frey, David Bowie, Prince and so many other music greats lost. Rest in Peace.

This is a tough one.

I first saw the Master of Space and Time on my local PBS TV station, WQED, in Pittsburgh while in 11th grade in 1970. It was the Shelter People playing live in a studio with that woman baking pies while the session was going on. I was hooked.

Years later while managing a Peaches Records and Tapes in Oklahoma City, OK I was given the 6' X 6' oil painting of the cover of "Willie and Leon: One for the Road" as a going away gift when I took a job in Dallas as a buyer for the Handleman Company. That painting is now displayed inside the Broken Spoke here in Austin, TX.

In 1979 John Hartford opened a show for Leon at the Boomer Theatre in Norman, OK. John invited me on to Leon's bus and there he was, the man himself, silver hair and all, sitting on the front couch with a girl under each arm.

He was and always will remain, one very cool Okie.

As a 65 year old fart, I have seen the passing of many artists, but, none has affected me as much as the passing of Leon Russell. It is very depressing, but now, he is truly in the hands of angels...

R.I.P. in your God's sweet arms. And thank you for letting me play your piano all those years ago. I made the best of it I could. Thanks for the words and inspiration. You are missed in my life.

I had watched a few Leon shows on YouTube and his service came up tonight, as someone filmed it. I hadn't heard the news. I saw Leon twice, 2 years ago November 21 and in 2012 at the same venue, The Granada Theatre. Loved him the first time I heard him 45 years ago. Will miss not seeing him again.

I've been a huge fan of Leon ever since the early '70's. My favorite album of his (an Marc Benno) is Asylum Choir II. I loved his voice, piano sound and everything about his music and personality.

I was not aware that he died till yesterday and i am greatly saddened.
May he rest in peace.

I still cannot believe Leon is gone either. Can't imagine a world without him in it. Thank you for sharing both the services via live stream. Very healing for those of us who could not be there. Thank you to Jan and the girls and Teddy Jack for sharing Leon with all the world!! God bless you all as you deal with the loss of Leon. There is no one who could possibly fill his boots! He will be missed by us all.

To Jan and Family and friends...I can't stop the tears either. Leon since 1970 has been a light in my life. I wish you peace and comfort during the rough days ahead. I can't bring myself to watch Mad Dogs /Englishman or Bangladesh just yet. He was the best and I will miss his presence on the planet. Hugs and love to you. You were lucky to have him and thank you for taking care of him. These posts have been amazing to read about how much we all loved him and his beautiful music.
Peace and love☮️🎼🎹 ❤️🎶 😥

Thank you to a beautiful person! I sometimes show Leon in my classroom, and watch the children mesmerized by hearing real music played from the heart, with love.
If everyone listened to Leon, I believe that we would have world peace.

Leon was a friend who showed up in my musical universe from time to time. And twice I was in the audience when he put on a show for me to see.
Good-bye to a friend, and condolences to his family.

Leon will have a permanent place in our hearts that will live as long as there is music and for that long, will be loved. To his family, most sincere condolences and deep thanks for so generously sharing him with us. God Bless and touch you with his loving, healing grace.
